We have introduced some great new courses this year, and we are looking for aspiring filmmakers whom we can train in the art and business of filmmaking. We welcome students from all age groups and from all walks of life.

Acting for the Camera

Almost all acting schools in Pakistan teach elements of the Russian Method Acting developed by Konstantin Stanislavsky.

Karachi Film School, however, focus the American Meisner Technique created by Sanford Meisner - one of the greatest acting teachers of the 20th Century. KFS has introduced the Meisner Technique in Pakistan because of its proven ability to make an actor a more honest human being, ready to act truthfully. What’s more, students are trained to successfully audition for film and television.

AS/A Level Film Studies

Karachi Film School is pleased to announce the new AS/A Level Film Studies qualifications for first teaching in September 2017.

The AS and A Level Film Studies specifications are designed by the OCR (Oxford Cambridge & RSA) "to engage learners with a wide range of films from different cultures and points in history, from silent to present day. Studies will encompass genre, representation, narrative, aesthetics, ideology, film form, spectatorship and a range of critical debates that will serve to enhance learners’ analytical and creative skills."

Directors Lab

The Directors Lab offers a chance to explore and push your creative boundaries through a series of complex production exercises, workshops and case studies.

Directors are exposed to a variety of perspectives on the current landscape of filmmaking and directing. This includes meeting with producers, distributors, funders and other key players in the industry to gain a better understanding of production and business considerations and how these factors impact project slates and long-term career strategy. You will also be coached and guided on the best way to successfully represent yourself and your projects within the industry, bridging the gap between your creative aspirations and the business of filmmaking.

Film & TV Production

1. Pre-Production

Every Monday: 06:00 pm - 09:00 pm What You Will Learn Idea Development, Screenwriting, Storyboarding, Location Scouting, Budgeting & Scheduling.

2. Production

Every Wednesday: 06:00 pm - 09:00 pm What You Will Learn Lighting, Cinematography, Directing Actors, Production Management, Health & Safety Measures, Legal Responsibilities etc. 

3. Post Production

Every Friday: 06:00 pm - 09:00 pm What You Will Learn Editing Audio & Video, Motion Graphics, Music & Foley, Colour Grading, Distribution & Marketing.

Guerilla Filmmaking

Duration: Three Days Workshop Design: (1) Writing (2) Directing (3) Editing  Schedule: Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays Hours: ± 30 Course Fee: PKR 10,000  Schedule: Bimonthly  

Guerrilla filmmaking is the process of producing film using inexpensive equipment and with as little crew as possible.

Because of its “shoot-and-run” philosophy, it has become a popular trend among struggling and established filmmakers who want creative freedom in telling stories that rock the world with sensitive and sometimes shocking themes. We will ride to the Hingol National Park located along the Makran coastal belt in Balochistan. The park is a sanctuary for at least 35 species of mammals, 65 species of reptiles and 185 species of birds. The region forms an excellent habitat to wild ibex, chinkara gazelle, Sindh leopard and marsh crocodiles among others.

The Writers Lab will help you learn the fundamentals of storytelling for film and television.

It is a series of workshops, readings, investigations, roundtable discussions, seminars and Master Classes with leading storytellers of Pakistan. 

Young Cinema

Enter the world of Film and discover the magic of Movie Making!

Young Guns will train in the craft of filmmaking with industry professionals, energising creativity and fostering teamwork. Young Cinema workshops are taught in four formats: After School Classes, In-School Classes, Weekend Workshops and School Holiday Programs.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria

Minimum qualifications are Intermediate. No prior experience is required but a strong level of commitment, discipline and punctuality is compulsory. An above-average interest in reading, writing, sketching, photography, movies & music is a Must! We’re looking for people who can make movies, and not excuses.
